11 Things to Do This Weekend: October 23-25

San Francisco never has a dull moment, especially during Harvest Season. As #49MilesOfHalloween continues, we present 11 (mostly Halloween-themed) events happening around the Bay this weekend!

Friday, October 23rd

Central Sunset: Bring the kids to St. Anne of the Sunset Church Annual Harvest Festival between 3:00PM–9:00PM on Friday. In its 33rd year, this annual event has become a tradition in the Sunset District. The Harvest Festival features attractions for all ages, including carnival games, contests, live entertainment, face-painting, food trucks and more! The festivities will continue through the weekend on Saturday (10:00AM–9:00PM) and Sunday (9:00AM–2:00PM).

Presidio: Fridays are for good vibes only. Decompress from the workweek with a hike! Try the Batteries to Bluffs Trail in the Presidio; its trails wind along the Pacific, leading to a secluded beach. The best news? Parking is relatively easy. Go at least one hour before dusk. (My inspiration: 7X7’s after-work hikes).

Parkside: Join your neighbors at McCoppin Square (in the Sunset District) to watch Maleficent, a live-action family film based on the Disney classic, Sleeping Beauty. The movie begins at approximately 7:15PM. Admission is free. Don’t forget to bring snacks and warm attire! Arrive early and you’ll be able to snag some discounted snacks from various Taraval merchants.

Financial District/Barbary Coast: Schroeder’s is a San Francisco favorite when it comes to German cuisine, especially when celebrating Oktoberfest! Founded in 1893, this establishment has a long history of hosting Oktoberfest with authentic Bavarian flair.

Saturday, October 24th

Golden Gate Park: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk is taking place at Hellman Hollow in Golden Gate Park this weekend! Registration begins at 8:00AM and the walk is schedule for 9:00AM. Come support the American Cancer Society, and the fight to end Breast Cancer.

Outer Parkside/Lake Shore: Boo at the Zoo opens this weekend! Some Halloween-themed activities going on at the Zoo include: Haunted Nature Trail, Halloween crafts, Baby Loves Disco dance party at the Playground (with live music), animal feedings, special critter adventure at the insect zoo and more! Children wearing costumes will get $1.00 off admission.

North Waterfront: The Wharf Fest, a Fisherman’s Wharf festival, is taking place this Saturday from 11:00AM to 5:00PM. The festival features live music, a clam chowder taste-off, and other activities for the kids. Admission to the festival is free, but tickets are required for the chowder tasting.

Presidio: Free but an RSVP is required. From 12:00-5:00PM, take part in the this family-friendly event at the Presidio Main Campground and join the carving workshop. Pumpkins will be provided by Arata’s Pumpkin Farm and will be available while supplies last. (One pumpkin per registrant.)  Basic tools for carving will be provided. Bring your own stencils, stickers, paint, etc. Miniature pumpkins will be available for children too young to carve on their own. Face and hand painting will be provided by the Presidio Community YMCA. Workshop also takes place on Sunday between 12:00-5:00PM, and food will be available for purchase.

Marina: Come support the 4th Annual Women’s Health RUN10 FEED10 Race! The 10K race starts and finishes at Crissy Field.

South Beach/AT&T Park: The Yard at Mission Rock is hosting the San Francisco BBQ Festival.  Eight participating restaurants will provide festival-goers amazing low and slow cooked barbecue food! Indulge in live music, beer & wine and a chance to win raffle prizes! The inaugural festival begins at 12:00PM and ends at 6:00PM
