San Francisco Weekend Guide: March 10-12

This weekend arrives with a bunch of great news: Game of Thrones has dropped the release date for season 7, Nicki Minaj finally responds to Remy Ma, and NASA has discovered that Matt Damon really could grow potatoes on Mars ?.

But the real news is that this weekend is action-packed for us here in the Bay Area! From films about the sea, to a sea of people in green, this weekend is filled with fun for all ages.

This weekend, the 14th Annual International Ocean Film Festival will be hosted at Fort Mason, filled with tons of mind blowing exhibitions. It’s also time to take advantage of the sunny weather and head out to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at City Hall! Whether you decide to stay in, or choose to go out, this post is for everyone, so without further adieu, here is this week’s SF weekend guide!

GO INTO THE BLUE → For the past 14 years, the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival (IOFF) has been one of the largest and most popular events of its kind. The IOFF has curated over 50 fascinating independent ocean-inspired films, from animated to narrated documentaries to educate viewers about hot topics revolving around the state of our ocean today. This event has been put together with hopes to inspire future generations to take action towards the preservation of our oceans and their inhabitants.

FRESH TO DEATH → In West Philadelphia, born and raised, DJ Jazzy Jeff started off his career at the age of 10, honing his skills in his family’s basement. Many of you know him as “Jazz” from his days with partner Will Smith on hit TV series, “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.” But this Friday, at The Great Northern, you’ll get to know him for his smooth skills on the turntables.

SUIT-UP FOR THIS → If you’re into bespoke clothing, the Magari Trunk show at the Leica store is where you need to go. Flip through endless pages of fabrics and try on samples. WEAR GREEN TO THIS → This Saturday marks the 166th anniversary of San Francisco’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival & Parade. Learn about Irish history and culture and join in on the festivities before the parade at Civic Center Plaza and Grove Street where there will be live performances, arts and crafts, food and beverage vendors, and children’s rides. The parade will begin at 11:30AM starting from 2nd and Market, and will make its way to City Hall.

BLOCK PARTY → Formerly known as O’Reilly’s, the pub Chief Sullivan in North Beach, renamed in honor of decorated SFFD Chief Dennis Sullivan who served in the 1906 earthquake, will be throwing a block party in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day and their grand re-opening. Stop by after the parade festivities and get the party started with live music, Irish beer, pub fare, and free green goodies!
